Southeast Behavioral Adolescent Inpatient Treatment

What are Intensive Outpatient Services?

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Southeast Behavioral Hospital provides a structured, therapeutically intensive setting for adolescents who do not require 24-hour supervision but still need a higher level of therapeutic support than can be met by individual therapy. Clients will engage in learning and practicing new skills related to healthy communication, emotional regulation and distress tolerance.

Length of Stay:

Typically, the length of stay at our intensive outpatient program for teens is anywhere from 12-16 sessions. However, our adolescent intensive outpatient services are specifically tailored to meet the needs of our clients and may be longer based on mental health treatment needs.

Group Information:

Our program offers group sessions Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. You are able to choose the three days that you will attend group therapy sessions throughout the week. If you would like to attend all five days that option is also available. *In order to remain compliant with treatment programs you must attend a minimum of 3 groups weekly.

Some topics covered in group include:

  • Triggers
  • Coping skills
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Distress tolerance
  • Mental illness exploration and explanation
  • Anxiety
  • Communication skills

  • Present moment awareness

Treatment sessions are available via Zoom when therapeutically appropriate.

Adolescent Mental Health

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression, anxiety and behavioral disorders are among the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents. WHO also states that the consequences of failing to address adolescent mental health conditions extend to adulthood, impairing both physical and mental health and limiting opportunities to lead fulfilling lives as adults.

With that being said, it is important that adolescents receive the proper care for mental health illnesses. By receiving this care early, this can help teens cope with a mental health disorder before adulthood.

Teen IOP at Southeast Behavioral Hospital provides the structure needed to help teens struggling with a wide variety of mental health disorders. Don’t hesitate to get your loved one the help that they need.

Our Treatment Team at Southeast Behavioral Hospital

A psychiatrist will meet with new clients upon admission to the teen intensive outpatient program. Any additional visits with our psychiatrist will be upon the client’s request.

Medication oversight will be provided throughout teen intensive outpatient treatment — meaning any medications clients are already prescribed should be continued. Any questions or concerns can be discussed with the physician upon request.

Clients are asked to maintain individual appointments with their personal psychiatrist while in teen IOP; release of information is required on file to share any medication changes with the outside provider.
